"Ten Secret Spots in BC"

Article & photos by Barb Roy

Nootka Sound is located midway on the western side of Vancouver Island, west of Campbell River (another good diving destination). The village of Tahsis is the departure location for some of the best halibut and salmon fishing on the western coast of BC. Boat diving is equally as fine, with an awesome site within minutes from the marina. Tahtsa Dive Charters offers boat and shore dives to suit every skill level. Six gill sharks are often seen at shallow depths near the shore during summer.

One of my all time favorite sites is a boat dive off Mozino Point in Tahsis Narrows. This unique area provides shelter and a high current flow bringing nutrient rich water to feed an assortment of small and large critters. On one side of the point, a diver will find bright red gorgonian sea fans starting in about 90 feet of water. On the other side of the point you can find cloud sponge at 70 feet. Care of current flow, buoyancy and depth should be heeded at this site.
